About the vineyard
The vineyard was originally planted in the early 1970's by my parents, Lloyd and Claudia Walker. Due to phylloxera, we have been working on a replanting program that started in 2012 and that has given us a great opportunity to expand our selection of varietals. Currently, we have 7 acres of Zinfandel, 8 acres of Barbera, 2 acres of Petite Sirah, 1.5 acres of Nero D'Avola. We also have several varieties of white grapes: Sauvignon Blanc, 2.5 acres, Riesling 1 acre and Albarino 2 acres.
We farm conventionally, we a focus on IPM (Integrated Pest Management) and water management using soil probes. We are certified as a Fish Friendly Farm.
As the fourth generation of farmers on this ranch, I have a respect for what was achieved in the past and a vision for an exciting future. Working daily with my father, Lloyd Walker, who has shared his 50 years of grape growing wisdom has grounded me in the fundamentals of viticulture. We are exploring new and exciting varietals that express the full terroir of the ranch.

Our 8 acres of Barbera were planted in 2016 and 2017and is the VCR 15 clone. This clone is an excellent choice as it is lower in acid than other clones. The vines are head trained on 7 x 12 spacing.

Our Walker Vineyard Zinfandel has created award winning wines by the Boeger Winery for nearly 50 years! The plants are rooted on St. George and are unique clone that my parents sourced from Zucker Mansfield in the 1970's. The grapes express the best flavors of Zinfandel with full ripe berry mixed with just the right amount of spicy black pepper.
